Does anyone have pictures of any aluminum welds that they did with MIG using a Lincoln pulse-on-pulse MIG machine?I may be purchasing one of these machines and would like to see some of their work other than what Lincoln has on their website....which I'm sure is a very controlled environment where they were done. I want to see if these machines can really make an aluminum MIG bead look like it was done with a TIG.

Reply:Yes, I will post them tonight.  Spoolgun is out, I am cutting up aluminum for class on saturday.  Come on out and try it!Your gonna LOVE it!I don't use the pulse on pulse much but it works great.DavidOne now, more later.Just a teaser Last edited by David R; 03-18-2008 at 06:47 AM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I know- I want to see what Lincoln's pulse-on-pulse looks like...not straight MIG. I have a pulsed Esab MIG, but want to see what Lincoln's POP Aluminum welds look like in reality. I saw their pics on the Lincoln site, but it's almost hard to believe they will really look that good. I just want to see REAL world welds that weren't set up by Lincoln's engineers.
Reply:Real world as it gets.  I had a blast and burned up a pound of wire today.  I also tried some 1/16 for the first time.  I tried to make the dimes as best as I could.   It works, you decide if its what you are looking for.  It doesn't really stand out till its out of position.  Not the looks but the ease of welding.  All plate is 1/4" so is the angle.Last edited by David R; 03-18-2008 at 04:39 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I ran this bead and turned the spool gun more forehand as I went.BeginningMiddleEndLast edited by David R; 03-18-2008 at 04:40 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Now for some out of position.Bead on flat stock going up.Second pass of a fillet.OverheadMachine was set for the biggest dimes or farthest spacing.  The wire actually gets short and long as well as the arc, so it will only go so far.Straight pulsed spray mig works best for me until I get to out of position, then the pulse on pulse works better.  Thanks for the fun!David Last edited by David R; 03-18-2008 at 04:38 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:For out of position, the pulse is GREAT! I can use the Esab overhead, up or down and it all looks the same. The beads with your P.O.P. look a little nicer than regular pulse.I've seen some MIG beads on fire apparatus treadplate and it looks spectacular. I don't know what machine did it, but I guess when you zing metal together all day long with one machine/one process after you've mastered it, it will look great.
