Reply:Stainless or carbon?   I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:155 not sure of the amps you are burning at the moment,i think you should try a 5/32 gap at 110  120 amps. a feather edge may suit you better, if so you can drop the amps 90 , 100 there abouts.i did this one recently. pipefitter. oh and im talking mild steel. Attached Images
Reply:ok thanks guys ya its on carbon steel to carbon steel. today i ran 1/8" with 3/32" filler it came out decent all the way around, neext ill try 5/32" -Justin6G zirconium 702 GTAW 2" xxheavy6G P.E.D. carbon steel GTAW 2" xxheavy3G titanium Gr. 2 - Gr. 7 GTAW up to 3/4" 3G 316L stainless GTAW up to 1" 3G carbon steel GTAW up to 1" 3G Hastalloy GTAW up to 3/4"1G tantalum GTAW up to .060"

Reply:Pipefitter does nice work. You have to find what works for you. On the 6 inch I usually use about a 3/32 gap with the same land and run 1/8th 6010 at around 120 (sometimes more) amps. All of the 6g pipe tests I have taken have been on sched 80 6 inch. I've never busted one doing it that way. Try different things and find what works best for you.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I use a 3/32 gap and run 3/32 wire.....I like 140 amps using either a scratch start or a foot peddle...try diffrent things to find your own grove!Jonesy
Reply:Throw the pedal away and learn how to weld.......only girls use a pedal   :lol:120  as a starting point and up with 6"I'd rather be hunting........USE ENOUGH HEAT.......Drifting around Aussie welding more pipe up, for something different.....wanting to get home.
Reply:pb i don,t want to mislead you  the cap you are referring to wasn,t welded at that angle 6g ish on these stringers are the norm but as roger mentioned there welders who prefer a weave, hammock has posted a pic of this.i have on a few jobs in the past capped with 2 even 3 small weaves.heres that pipe capped with stringers. i used 4 to keep it uniform with the other welds. pipefitter
Reply:The trick is to be able to use both!!  Peddle or scratch or even lift arc...you would be surprised at how many people can't!!   Want to have some fun...try a foot peddle while stick welding...you would be amazed at how much control you  get!!Jonesy
