First might be easy.  what does the A,B,C,D nobs do?  I am guessing it is for the power selection.I know that the 1,2,3,.... is for the speed of the flux core to come out.The second question is.The welder runs off of 110v. (<--- not the question)  Is it okay to run the welder through a surg protector, that runs through and extension cord to my outside outlet on my house?

Reply:The reason I am asking about the voltage, is b/c it feels like I am not getting enough power.  Also , your saying d would be high or would A be high.the reason i ask these question is that i just thought of them and i am at work.
Reply:I wouldn't know for certain, probably though A is low and D is high.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:Surge protectors (especially the cheapies) and extension cords can create resistance and limit the power to your welder. The few times I did use my 110v on an extension cord I noticed a difference. 110v's are limited in their penetration power to start with....added resistance won't help.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:OK I guess i will weld next to the outlet
Reply:It is allways better not use extensions on 115 machines.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:But if you need to, you can feel good about it as long as it is a good quality #12 cord with ends that grip each other tightly.
Reply:I am going to put it next to the house and plug it straight to the house to get the right power.  I got to looking around on here.  I need to get a metal work table.  I was welding on what ever i could weld on hehe.
Reply:Size your extension cord for the amount of amps you need it to carry and you will never know it is there.
Reply:Exactly.  A good #12 extension cord that is 25' long and plugged into the garage (near the panel) is better than having the unit plugged into a receptacle on the other side of the house.
Reply:What thickness of material are you welding on? They have some difficulty around or over 3/16. Also are you using gas with your flux or not? Gas flux = Positive electrode (positive wire hooks up which goes to the gun)glassless flux = Negative electrode (negative wire hooks up which goes to the gun)I accidentally used my 220 volt welder with hard wire in reverse polarity and it burned yellow with my mix gas and did not get very hot at all. Similar results could happen with your flux. If you are using heavier plate, you could warm the plate with a torch before welding. A bit of a pain in the butt but will get the job done in a pinch. Also if you are knowledgeable with electrical, you can test the power outlet to make sure you are getting the proper ams and volts, mainly looking for amps. Reply:My multi meter can be set to amps ac and that will tell me how much the panel is carrying. The last panel I tested was 20 amps which explained why the stick welder wasn't getting hot near at all. Although you may not get the max amount of output from the panel because nothing is really drawing from it but it worked in my case. I agree, checking the panel for the fuse rating or panel rating is the best way other then the multi meter.Last edited by oxygen454; 05-11-2008 at 03:22 AM.
Reply:I Will get spec.  I just think i need to become more knowledgable with my welder first.  I think I will read and watch this learning video that came with it.  I am pretty knowledgable with a stick welder.  I am jsut learning on my own with my mig.
Reply:Oh yeah and also forgot to tell you to turn off all the major appliances and power eaters in your house. I had a dryer kick in and I lost my weld haha. And thats on a 220 volt welder too. Turn off the lights, you can see better lol

Reply:It was on a really old wiring system haha. I dont know how it was wired but Im sure its at least in the 50's lol. I was mostly joking about the power thing. But I do find I get more draw of amps if I have other things off. More than couple places I have welded at. If we all turn our welders on at our shop and weld, we have to actually turn up our voltage on the welders, not much but enough to make the weld nice again.
