well I have a very nice partical board top work table. the base is metal.. Do you think if I use sheet metal to cover the top of the partical board and pretty much cover all of the expose board. Would it work as a welding table.
Reply:I'm no guru here, but a sheet metal covering over particle board will most likely cause the particle board to catch fire. Use a metal table altogether. That's my thought.
Reply:I depends on what you want to weld together on the top. If it's going to be mostly light tubing, and where most of the welds won't actually be close to the table top, you can get away with it, sure.But it wouldn't take much of a close weld to heat through that sheet metal and burn the particle board, which is even more susceptible to being burned than hardwood. Enough heating on top, and yes, it can catch fire.
