i have to do a little bit of overhead welding with S-6 wire and i want to nail it the first time....wire ill be using is .030 S-6, Ar 75 Co2 25 gas mix at about 15-20 LPH and the machine is a millermatic 250. metal to be welded is about 3/16, with a little bit of a gap...any hints would be much appreciated.also i should say that i have done some overhead wire...i was just looking to make this one a bit prettier than the other ones....iv also done a fair bit of overhead stick as well....
Reply:Standard cleaning, shiny like a mirror. Have the machine clean and set to "good parameters" for the thickness of material. Then weld just like you would if it was flat on the table, just don't weave.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:Just pretend you are welding flat. No weaving, just stringers at first. Wire speed will have to be a little faster than flat. Minimal stick out.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:What they said, but I would say same wire speed or a little slower than flat cuz all the heat will be rising to the base metal. As you know watch out for sparks and spatter.
