Reply:I don't know about now, but they used to have a good program.  I had an operator that went there in about 1994 to be a pipeline welder.  After he finished school, he welded for me for about 2 yrs, and I don't remember him ever having a cutout, and very few repairs.  He had already been pipelining for probably about 6 or 8 yrs at that point, so he kinda had an idea when he started welding.  After that, he became an instructor there for a few years, before he finally went back to running equipment and went into business for himself with a backhoe and dozer.I know that this was a long time ago, and things can change a lot, but he was happy with the schooling he got back then.

Reply:I dont know a whole lot about their program but heres what i do know.I took a cert. test there back in 87 or 88 only cert test i ever flunked. My cousin went there back in late 80s.Has been employed by a large power company for around 15 years now.Makes about 40 bucks an hour. They have a very good reputation in this area.Ive been around a few welders who went there, all of em were very good....just my 2 cents.

Reply:Originally Posted by mark8310Sounds like the question is, is it strictly a welding curriculum, or do they also  touch on other things many welders should know, such as unions, business, contracts, bidding, etc.?????Sometimes learning the skill, is only half the battle .....
Reply:Many tech schools will qualify you for a helpers job after graduation. Tulsa will qualify you for a welding job when you graduate. I don't know their curriculum but I am sure they would be happy to answer your questions and probably have a website with most of the answers already. I have worked with quite a few of their grads and they were all very good welders. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
