Thanks to everyone on the forum im going to go out for a Plasma.  I have a few things to clear up though before I get things rolling. My LWS is a pretty good Miller dealer so the Spectrum line is what Im going to stick with. Now as for size. My main thickness of mild steel is 1/4" however I cut a fair amount of 3/8 also.Is the 625 my machine?  On handling the 3/8" mild steel?  Do I have to drill a hole in the plate for the initial start or will it blow through it?Second, i'll be cutting on material thats a little dirty that I might brushwheel it off, and some of it might have paint on it. Is this a big problem, or will it run fine after the initial start? I know "Prep your work" but there is always sometimes where its just about impossible.Third, i've been reading about people saying be careful on consumables. What all are they talking about besides Tips. I'm just trying to get an idea how long it will cut and how much it cost to operate one on a day to day basis.Any info on the machine other than those questions would be great.  By the way this forum is really top notch. its so much better than trying to talk to the LWS guys. They know Nothing.

Reply:Well i have two compressors that i could hook together, but I might have trouble getting DRY air unless there is something to do to fix that problem...My other option is like a 200cf Oxy cylinder.  But depending on how much pressure you have to run, I don't know if that is logical to run, as far as if I'll be running the bottle empty very fast.Little input here would also help.

Reply:how does the cartridge filters work.  do you have to throw away the foam filter and put another rep. in everytime it gets saturated, or do you just put in a dry one and rotate them out?

Reply:Use a multi-layered approach to reduce the water.Use a big enough compressor that the pump isn't running continously.  That lets the air and the tank cool off a bit and the water vapor start to condense out.Use several water filters to get the water to condense out and be trapped.  In the airstream, you can first have a general purpose filter (to get out 'big' stuff'), and then maybe a coalescing filter (to get out more/most of the water and oil vapor), and then maybe a dessicant filter (to get out even more water vapor), and then maybe the Motorguard-type.  Oh, and run the air through some pipe runs to let it cool and thus let the water condense out.See www.tptools.com for an air piping layout for a shop (it's in the Tips/Tech section). Most of these things are 'best-case' scenarios.  You might not be able to do everything.  But air tools (and especially plasma cutters and spray guns) really don't let wet air or water.  Water in the spray gun means a bad paint job and rework (time/money).  Water in the plasma means you have to replace the tip and electrode more often (which costs money).
Reply:Ok I have a plan.... I have a gas compressor that I believe will run the 625 by itself. only thing is, it has very small storage tanks. It will probably be kicking on and off all the time in my shop... this will be a little noisy and loud.  What if I take say a 250gal propane tank which is rated at 200PSI air pressure and install an "in" and "out" air outlet.  Then I can put my water seperater on the outside of the propane tank and pump the tank up to about 150psi.  Now i'll have a 150psi 250gal tank I can run down before my compressor has to kick on again...What psi would I be running on the 625?????
