Does anyone have any preferences of Nozzle Dip versus Aerosol Spray? When I got my Mig, it had a tin of greasy dip which was pretty good but I don't see it around now and most places have Spatter Sprays of different brands. I'm using a can by Liquidarc at the moment, a division of Lincoln Australia and it's ok but not really a stand out product.I hope this topic hasn't been covered a hundred times, I didn't search first."One of the things we have to be thankful for is that we don't get as much government as we pay for." Reply:Nozzle dip last forever, at least for me.   I use sprays for the weldment and table.  I hate the flammable sprays, hope your can is not flammable.  I find it difficult to believe they make flammable anti-spatter for use around welding.Maybe somebody has some homebrew nozzle dip Ideas.

Reply:I have had a tub of gel for many (20?) years.  Got 2 new ones on the shelf, but....Never used the spray.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:TEK, anti-flammable?  Good one!http://www.reference.com/search?q=an...ble&r=d&db=webI like to use a very light coat of gel inside the tip of the nozzle applied with a split popsicle stick the size of a small screwdriver in width. Anything more than that on my gear and you can... fahgettabattit!  Spray the work piece if need be.City of L.A. Reply:I quit using the Crown Alloys #69 spray, that stuff will rot your brain. They make a water base spray that isn't too bad...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:I use a spray called Welders Black Magic. Puts on a heavy black coating that feels like graphite. Doubt thats what it is but that's what it feels like. Good for C clamp threads, tips and such. You wouldn't want to use it for a weld through spray or anything that would need painted. Real tough to get off. Even after you wipe off the black layer there is still a slick coating.
Reply:They both have there uses, use the dip for the gun. Use the spray on parts you don't want to get splatter on.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:Just a note.  For the gel, I wait till the gas cone is good and hot.  Then dip it, pull the trigger so the gas blows the rest out.  Let it drip off back into the container.  This way you only use a teeny bit and it lasts for ever.  I can't use the gel with pulsed spray, it screws up the arc big time.  Maybe that black magic would be what I need.  I am a fanatic about cleaning the gas cone.  I even clean them up on the wire wheel so they look like new.  I bought some round wire brushes at Tractor supply 3/4" and 1/2".   I use them to clean out the inside of the gas cone.I have been in shops that the gas cone is so full o crap I wonder how it welds.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:i just use this dirty old tin of sticky stuff dunn o what it is seems to keep the nozzle clean and on stuff i weld most of it doesnt matter as its dirty old earthmovign equipment anyway .
Reply:If you paint your stuff after you weld it, try to stay as far away from spray as you can. Its very hard to clean up to get the paint on properly with no runs  or orange peel effect. Stick to the nozzle dip if you can.

Reply:I just use a painters 5 in one to clean out the Mig cup. I like to scrap it out after a few welds then tap it to knock any thing out.   As for splatter I use a soap/water mix and spray it on.  It helps and is easier to clean off.
