What brands do you prefer and why? I have been using these, and don't have any complaints.  Wanted to hear from others,http://www.cgwheels.com/eng/HTMLs/ar...P=679&BSS5=704http://www.unitedabrasives.com/index.html
Reply:I've been using the Walter Enduroflex wheels, expensive, but great quality, just switched to the Metabo 40 grit flap wheels, a new product for them, made in Germany, a great product, about $4.50 - 5/ea.jack
Reply:Grinding Discs:  Flexovit MetalHog 5" x 1/4"MetalHogs have good stock removal without excess loading.  Good on edge for preparing larger "J" grooves.  Tyrolit 5" x 1/8"The 1/8" discs are a grinding/cutting combination disk that I use on edge for grinding out smaller "J" grooves.  Also come in handy for quick stock removal in small areas  - lots of bite.Cutting Discs:Walter .045" ZipcutsGood flexibility without blowing out the center and sending the disc flying around the shop.  Not prone to chunking out.  I get really good life out of the discs - little or no waste.Flap Wheels:Flexovit - Zircotex 5" Flapper wheels grit 36Good overall sanding pad.  High stock removal when new.  After a while, it becomes more of a polishing disc.  Works well on curved or irregular surfaces.  Works really well on Aluminum without gouging or leaving divots.Walter 15-P 503 Cool Cut Sanding Pads Grit 36My favourite choice for sanding.  The secret to these is the backing pads.  I use vented medium pads for curved and irregular surfaces, and the vented firm pads for smooth or straight surfaces.Other  consumables:1 1/2" x 3" Grinding plugs2" x 3" Grinding plugs2" Grinding cones & Tapered plugsWeiler Stringer Bead Knotted wire wheels - 6" to get more use.- Excellent for flux removal on  SMAW or FCAW.  - Good for pre weld prep for GMAW.  - Gets nicely into corners. Also Tyrolit or Flexovit curved 5" x 1/4" grinding discs.  I do not recall specific part numbers but they are dish shaped.   Extremely good stock removal when new.  Longer life that flat disc of same size.My negative rant:I do not like the Walter wire wheels as the main body and center hub are made of dissimiliar metals and the hub always seems to come loose making it a pain to remove.Extra info you didn't ask for:Going hand in hand with the consumables, I use Makita Grinders almost exclusively.9005B Light Duty 5"9015DBZ Heavy Duty 5" Same as 9016DBZ 6"GA6010 New design 5"Hope that helps.Later,Jason
Reply:Thanks for all the information. Very helpful.  Are y'all buying these thru a LWS?Thanks
Reply:Those CGW flap disks suck really bad. We use them at work because the people doing the ordering don't know tools, and don't understand how a more expensive tool can be a much better value. If you're lucky they wear out really fast, alot of the time a big chunk will break off after 1 minute of use. I usually buy the Dewalt disks for use at home. Twice the price but get 5 times the use out of them, and they work better too.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Hi,I am the Managing Director of a company called Smith & ARROW - we sell abrasives all over the world. We believe our cutting wheels, grinding wheels and zirconia flap wheels are as good as the best in the world at fraction of the price. To prove this point I would be happy to send out 3 separate packs of 25 of our 3", 4", 41/2, or 5" INOX grade Ultrathin Cutting Wheels to those 3 of your members who you as a forum feel would be most qualified to comment on the quality and price. These discs are excellent for cutting stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium.I would preferably like to send out 3 different sizes to 3 of your members that use them under different conditions - for example cutting stainless steel, car panels, and general mild steel fabrication. For example, I would like as one of the examples to be our 3" x 1/32" INOX wheels for the Air Cut-off Tool, also perhaps our 5" x 0.0315" Extremely Thin Wheel (0.8mm) perfect for cutting Stainless Steel Sheet as well as either the 4", 41/2" or 5" x 1/32" Inox cutting wheels - for all general stainless steel and mild steel cutting.Although our Zirconia Flap Wheels and Grinding Wheels are of the highest grade - it is more economical to ship the smaller cutting wheels as free samples to illustrate the quality of our range.I look forward to the Forum's ideas on my offer! Our products are available 24 hours a day on Ebay or from our web site www.smithandarrow.comCheersBen FergusonManaging DirectorSmith and ARROW (US) LLCwww.smithandarrow.com
