Okay. I have a mig dvi2. I just need to know how to clean the metal before I weld to it.The car is about 30 years old and the floor pans need to be replaced.Any tips or advice?Please help.Also, any advice on what tools to use to make the welds smooth after?
Reply:Grind off all rust, plating or mill scale that is on the steel. A flap wheel works nice when doing body work.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:I wouldn't recommend it. I would get some .023 wire. The DVI2 works awesome with that wire on sheet metal. Also flap disks should be at any local welding supply. They come in different grits to. I noramlly have four different grit disk on hand. Also I use a angle die grinder a lot with 2 & 3 inch sanding disks, which also come on different grits.
