I have a antique Thermal Arc WC122 and I am wanting to sell it now I have a few problems trying to do this 1.There are very very few known sellers of new plasma welders 2. Lack of ability to find some one who even knows what a plasma welder is 3. How the hell do I price this thing??? I called up the company and list price for a brand spankin new machine is $6,504 with out the torch and the torch is an extra $1,712 not including shipping so now how am I supposed to price this thing right with out testing it or knowing what the general market is willing to pay??
Reply:E-bay, where the market  determines the price for you. Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:I am not going to list it on there until I can figure out what my ball park figure is, also who actually knows what a Plasma welder is anyhow? I am willing to bet some boob would buy it thinking it is a plasma cutter even with the disclaimer that it is not a cutter but a welder then try to get there money back
Reply:Call Thermal Dynamics in West Lebanon, NH.....1 603 298 5711 and ask for Terry Raymond....he can help you put a value on it. Tell him Jim Colt sent you.Jim
Reply:Well whom ever I talked to (some guy with an aussie accent) knew what model I was talking about but was only able to give me current list prices for there newer units
Reply:That's why I gave you Terry's name. He has been with them for over 30 years...and specializes in the welding end of the business. If you can get hold of him...he will help you. He has a New Hampshire accent.Jim
Reply:Really only specialized shops use the plasma welders, ie, instrument shops race car builders and the like. They are cats *** machines.Thats why you can't find much information on themIf you were to go to an intrument shop, there is a good bet that they would be using one, and perhaps let you try it out. There are several different kinds of torches depending on application, that is why they are separately purchased from the machine. I mean who needs a torch that is cabable of 150 amps when the required for the application is less than 5.
Reply:I will call Terry in the morning, I know that this thing runs cooler than ANY other tig machine and uses a lot less heat I would use it myself but I can't justify using two argon tanks and having to buy special dielectric coolant. Not to mention the cost of replacing a torch
Reply:Well according to Terry this thing is 30 years old and I will be lucky to get $1,000 on ebay so now comes the most difficult part, do I scuttle this unit or do I take it apart and sell the copper guts or make a attempt on ebay.
Reply:Why not set it up as a TIG system and use it or sell it as such?  You may have to disconnect the pilot arc circuit, but maybe you can figure a way to use the high frequency arc start circuit that start the pilot.  Let's see a photo of the unit.  What is the current range?
Reply:There is no simple way to convert it over to TIG and besides how are you supposed to get it to work properly with out two bottles or argon and or the dielectric coolant??
