Hey guys.  Clearly, I am not a welder.  I came here looking for advice because I LOVE THIS CHAIR.Recently, my office chair broke. I've had it for about 5 years, and it was very expensive. i LOVE this chair. The bottom bracket piece snapped in half (while I was sitting in it, it was very jolting). It was faulty.  It a pretty clean snap, the two pieces fit back together. Now, the thing had a 10 year warranty, but the damn manufacturer went out of business.Would it be possible to get the thing welded back together? If so, any idea how expensive it would be?  Or, any alternate ideas of how to fix this?
Reply:I have fixed a few office chairs.  Its not a problem as long as you are not welding near the gas cylinder.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yep, I've done several office chairs.  Take all the paint off next to the joint.  MIG or TIG would be best for the thin steel in most of these.  It appears you aren't a welder yourself.  You should put your location in your profile so it appears at the top of your post.  You might find someone nearby that way.
Reply:As said, as long as it is not near the gas cylinder. My old one opened up like a tuna can around the cylinder when I leaned back once, so I though I might try welding it.  You shoulda seen all that grease come out and catch fire!  Was a great sight, but it totally ruined the chair.
Reply:Hey, I fixed my bosses chair a while back, I have also fixed my shop stools right up against the gas cylinder. Wrap a WHOLE BUNCH of wet rags around it and use a series of small tacks, giving plenty of cool down time inbetween. Works great! City of L.A. Reply:Can any of you give me an estimate of how much it might cost?If its cheaper to just buy a new chair, I won't waste my time.
Reply:Some shops might not take the job, some might charge you $20 if you walk in with a case of beer.
Reply:You can go up to User CP (left side of page) and fill in your location.
