weld contamination question

can soap stone or other items like permanent marker contaminant you welds if left on the metal and you run a bead over the markings? i know that this is probably a silly question but i thought that i would ask. thanks for any help.SIN CITY METAL WORKSvisit my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/devvon
Reply:If I was MIG or stick welding, I'd swipe at a soapstone mark with a glove to get off most of the mark, and then go with it.  Small amounts shouldn't remain inside the weld any more than any other particle of slag or millscale that might be there.  If I were TIG welding, I'd clean it more.  Marker marks won't make any difference, as it will pretty much all burn away before your puddle gets to it.
