Dilemma/Opportunity:  Son bought 20 electric sccoters (the Chinese made type) in need of serious repair.Friend of family says,"If you want to borrow my Home Depot, Weld Pak 100HD to get them up and running feel free to come pick it up."Question to those who know is can this low-end, retail welder do the job?  I measured the steel and here are the results in MM:1-OD-22.22MM2-ID-19.05MM3-Wall Thickness-1.65MMMy son believes the steel is 'Mild Steel Tube A513 Type 5'.  Does this seem about right?  That the steel is of this type? Short answers such as,"Go for it" or "Forget about it" will do.  Thanks in advance for the replies.Pete
Reply:LIkely better equipment than they were made with in the first place. 1.6mm thick material is about what this machien does best. But like anything you ride, drive, tow or fly, you want to be sure it right. 20 scooters does not sound like personal use...Lincoln PT185 TIGLincoln 175 MIGLincoln 240 amp AC StickLind Needle Arc plasma welderPlasma cutter, soon???
Reply:Okay, go for it.
Reply:Is he planning on reselling them?  If yes, don't bother for liability reasons.
Reply:Thank you for the replies, very satisfied with your input. Very.Yes, he plans on re-selling them. And I will pass along to him the liabiltiy issue.Pete
Reply:Get the welder, learn how to use it and forget about the scooters I would not do it for liability reasons.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:agreed^. Practice on the welder alot!!
Reply:Again, more bits of wisdom from those who've gone before me.  I'll take this advice to the bank...wait, with the state of the financial world I'll stick to my mattress.Okay, I bought the welder off my friend ($150.00) instead of borrowing it. Figured if I destroyed something I'd rather own it then have to return it all mangled up.I would imagine a 220v setup would be the next logical step after I become proficient?  Depending on my application, go with one of the "top brands" that have good warranties, customer support etc. After all, aren't all setups basically a matter of personal opinion?Am I wrong in assuming that Miller (Hobart for that matter) vs Lincoln vs Esab vs ETC is a never ending battle of opinions?  BTW: I told my son that he'd better get a good lawyer if he plans on going thru with this scooter endeavour.Crazy kid
