I have tig welded copper to copper using heavy guage electrical wire as filler. My question is can copper weld to brass and if so what filler?Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
Reply:I would say silicon bronze rod would be compatible with both. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Be careful with Brass. Welding temperatures can get the zinc to boil out.Since the copper doesn't color match the brass, is color even important to you?I would try copper-phosphorus brazing rod. It doesn't need flux on the copper side, but might flow better on the brass side, with some flux, although, if you bathe the whole joint under a swirl flame for heat, it may be reduced enough by the flame to not need flux.Silver solder is also a good choice. |
