Hello everyone. New to the forum. Passed by a number of times and found some helpful info. I would like to build an engine driven DC welder. Looking to build something fairly small/low output. Not looking to build a monster welder. I have a couple of 24v DC generator motors (30v / 300 amp). Thinking of using one of these powered by a small gasoline engine (that I also have).First off, am I completely off base thinking I can use one of these DC generators for the source of my power?Secondly, if this is do-able, what other components do I need to pull this off? Thanks!
Reply:Just curious would those be aircraft generator or starter generators? You're going to need a good 20 or more hp for 300 amps. Try Surplus City they had lots of stuff for making homemade welders.Tough as nails and damn near as smart
Reply:Yes, they are. I have two complete generators and a couple of spare surplus engines still new/unused in the crates. Thanks for the tip on Surplus City... I'll check it out. |
