I know that I want an oxy/propane setup and it will be for hobby use at home. I'm mostly favoring the Smith medium duty as it is made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty. http://www.weldfabulous.com/Shop/Con...ds_per_page/48My other choices would be the Smith heavy duty.http://www.weldfabulous.com/Shop/Con...ds_per_page/48Or one of the acetylene Victor sets and getting LP tips for it.http://www.weldfabulous.com/Shop/Con...ds_per_page/48Any ideas or suggestions?_________________________
Reply:Got a Smith myself...I like it but never have gotten used to burning the hairs off my fingers when I try to adjust the Oxy. Reaching under the torch is a little cumbersome. I like Harris. Not a bad torch and I like it better than a Victor...though nothing is wrong with Vic.I do love a purox or prestolite regulator though from ESAB. Solid brass housing machined from billets, not stamped and pressed pieces like everyone else. Allows for much smaller regs to handle large volumes of gas.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Whichever good name brand set you buy, make sure to buy tips made by the same company. Aftermarket tips made by other manufacturers suck most of the time."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Smith and ESAB are the only manufacturers that still make their products in the USA. They both have lifetime warranties on their gas outfits and both are quality products. Like Lugweld says, ESAB has the safest product on the market. If you're not going to be gas welding, ESAB has an outfit in a toolbox that includes a Rosebud Heating Head instead of welding tips. My distributor had a stack of them on his floor and was selling them for about $275 each. If you want an outfit with all the bells and whistles, Smith has several to choose from. Good Luck!
Reply:Well, I ordered the Smith medium duty set. Now I guess I need to shop for an oxygen tank._________________________
