question on amperage stettings

I'm a bit confused. My Hobart 140 is rated at 140 amps but how am I supposed to know my amp. setting? The welder has voltage setting but no amperage setting. Not to mention the voltage adjustment is 1-4. This is all very confusing to me because the specs say one thing but the controls are something different. I could really use some help and explanations. Please help a newb.Here's what I've got on my control panel.

Reply:Wire speed is your amps.  Since you have 4 voltage taps, set the voltage you want and adjust the wire speed for the best arc.   The chart is close.  You will never get 140 amps out of it at welding voltage.  100 or a few more on a good 25 amp 110 circuit is about it.  Less on a 15 amp circuit.Like farmersam sez   Just use it.  You will get the hang of it.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Thanks for the replies everyone. I kind of get it now. I'll have to reed my manual a little closer.David R, I'm running a 20 amp 12 awg dedicated circuit in the garage. It runs my air compressor and my welder depending on what one I need at the time. Never both simultaneously.
