Anyone have any experince w/ notching out stainless pipe? I've used a holesaw on carbon pipe before. Does it work on stainless? Any favorite cutting fluids? Or how hard would it be to do a fairly nice job w/ a plasma? Diameter could be as small as 1.5 in. Or anyone have any other ideas ??
Reply:I've used a chopsaw, Cut the end of the pipe at two 45 deg angles intersecting at the centerline of the pipe so you end up with a point and finishing it up with a grinder. A bit of practice and it turns out good.....Mike
Reply:I use my vertical mill and an appropriate sized end mill or fly cutter.Rex
Reply:I use my plasma cutter! I have a guide pattern for the hole. I clamp the pattern onto the pipe and run the torch around the inside of the pattern. I do this for the 1/4" gal pipe I use to make the T-Poles for the clothes lines I sell. The process is very fast, with clean acurate cuts.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.& 2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
