I got told a story that if you run a plasma torch over a raw hot dog it explodes. Anyone want to do this and tell me if this is a Snopes thing or has some truth to it? I don't have a plasma handy to try it. My guess is the long arc will extinguish on the meat?

Reply:Don't know about a plasma cutter, but I once had a hot dog cooker that worked by sticking prongs in the ends of a hot dog, and then putting the thing across the 120V AC line. I am not making this up. It worked pretty well, cooked the things really fast, and never blew anything up.Tim

Reply:I dont think that the plasma blows them up, as we were drilled on safety way back when, the instructor hid a hotdog in his glove, ran the plasma over the back of his fingers. He started hollering and cussing, and grabbed the piece of glove off the table, and the "finger" fell out. Liked to have scared the begesus out of us, and we were all REAL careful around that big killer plasma cutting thingy machine. Good demo, though. It pays to be a bit careful.cc

Reply:I have seen some funny local food of cooking fried rice with a LPG torch to the stir... Its supposed to add heat to the rice and make it hard and hot... like the chinese cooking and introduced flame into the wok.For me, it depend on the quality of the hot dog and the distance from the torch I guessUnit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...

Reply:Side note...this reminds me of one day when I was running some SMAW 1/8" on some steel and chewing a piece of bubblegum. it fell out of my mouth and onto a joint i was doing. Being the inquisitive young person I am, i decided that i should run a bead over the bubble gum. Well the bubble gum EXPLODED and left behind a fairly wide and deep crater in the metal. Try it. Swear to god. Weld a piece of chewed bubble gum. BOOM. nuff said."Real power is an arcair hand torch with a piece of 3/4 inch carbon and 1500 amps. You feel like Zeus throwing a lightning bolt."
