Wire feeder and engine drive

I rang up a welding supplier for a price on a LN25 pro wire feeder for my Cigweld MPM 255 ( 255 amp DC  CV/CC engine drive) similar to a Bobcat 250 except that the Cigweld unit is 7kva single phase and  8Kva three phase. I was astounded to here this bloke tell me that I would not run an LN25 on 250 amps DC, " you need 400 amps DC" I kind of think this guy is not quite correct as I have read other posts that conclude that a lot of operators use Bobcats with wire feeders sucessfully. Any feedback would be appreciated.Thanks.

Reply:He is wrong.  I run 12VS suitcases off of my Ranger GXT (250 amp) without any problem.  I have run the LN 25 on the older Miller bobcat 225's that I used to have.  I've got one set up for .035 solid wire, and run it at lower voltages for sheet metal all of the time.  My friend has a little 180 amp machine and has borrowed one of my 12VS feeders, and run it with that small of a machine.  Find you a new welding supplier.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I've run one from a Trailblazer 301G and still do from a Bobcat 225NT.  And when I ran one from the big boys, I still wasn't over 300A most of the time.Maybe Aussie amps are smaller?
