Hi-I'm looking at buying a gas saver and in my internet searches, I have found two (see links). They are priced about $100.00 apart. My application is a production hobby shop. Meaning I do many differant applications, so it won't see continued "production" work...Anyway, Does anyone have one these? Pro-Cons?I'm thinking I will eather mount it on the tank cart or build an independant stand for it... Any thoughts? Recomendations?Thanks!!!Peterhttp://rmgsupply.com/products/GENTEC...-2216-343.htmlhttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...mL._SS500_.jpg
Reply:I've got the second style and love it.I welded a bracket to the handle of my cart, and bolted it to that.Try eBay.  These are quite expensive new. They're great if you will be doing a lot of starting and stopping.
Reply:I have two of the ones in the second link mounted on my cart.  Mine are made by Smith and are quite indispensible.  I do a fair amount of production brazing and could not imagine being without them. Reply:I believe that the Smith ones are just a rebranded Weldit Gasaver.I absolutely love mine for brazing.  I had made a copper rain chain, which required hundreds of individual brazed joints, and not having to reset my flame every time was an incredible time saver. If you ever plan on wanting to switch gases, you might want to consider the one with a separate propane pilot.  The pilot is fed via a hose barb (which I feed from an old bernzomatic torch with a hose which I cut the torch off of), and runs on propane. The regular gasaver feeds the pilot off the acetylene, before the valve, but doesn't work well with other gases.Mud Spaz: Great work with your mounting bracket.  The angle standing up is a great touch, and should server really well to protect the pilot.Just to explain for those who haven't used one of these:The pilot light is a flame just on top of the valve body, and is completely in the open, ready to burn anything that gets near it.  When you make a bracket for the gasaver, its a really good idea to install a guard to keep anything from possibly falling onto the pilot. On mine, I made a wire hoop out of 3/16" steel, which sits centered about 3" above the burner.  I need to take and attach a pic, but anyway, I like this setup with the angle steel even more. The only consideration to take when working with a gasaver, is that if you have long hoses after the valve, the time to start and stop can be delayed annoyingly.  I only have 12' hoses, so its not a problem, but 50' hoses won't work so well.BTW, is that a MECO torch?  Very nice!
Reply:Mud Spaz-Nice cart! Hey, whats the black contraption in the middle?Looks like the more expensive one is the one of choice- Dosen't anyone have the cheeper one? Thanks guys, for the feedback

Reply:Mud SpazThats cool! Must be HUGE time saver, leaving more time for
Reply:A very convenient and a good safety feature, particularly in confined areas. Probably paid for by gas savings by any really active OA user.My old Harris 18-3 torch has a thumbwheel which does the same thing but leaves a 'pilot light' burning at the tip, if wanted.I wouldn't mind having a flux dispenser either....
Reply:Oldiron2I looked at the Harris 18-5 at welding mart- $272.35-- Very Nice! To bad it cost $100 more than the one I'm compairing to which is $100.00 more than the one I'd like to buy, Few, That was a mind full at this late hour! It's just no one has spoken up with an oppinion on the one I can afford right now.... I gues that says it all!
Reply:Ok, Looks like I need help finding a used? Gas Saver. At the suggestion of Oldiron2 (thank you), I looked in the archives and though huh! why buy new when someone may need a little cash and have an extra one!Anyone? and please, no scams!
