I understand the principles behind heating steel to bend it one way or another, but I was wondering 'how much' heat was needed ?I realize each piece will require more or less, depending on thickness, but I do not have an OXY set, and the only other way I can think of heating it is:1. The old fashioned kerosine pump up pressure lamp (not sure on the exact name of these?)2. Buying a burner piece to fit on the end of my LPG gas bottle I use for my BBQWill any of these methods be good enough to heat a 25mm(1") x 10mm(3/8") solid flat steel bar to slightly bend back into shape ?

Reply:bend it cold.  Use a hammer or some bending forks.  It just take time.  Working it cold is safer than working it hot.
Reply:mild steel not more than 1100 F and not more than 1200F for quenched or tempered steelonly thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld
