How can you tell the difference between the Lowes Lincoln's and the real Lincoln's?
Reply:They should be same. Only difference is that they are being sold at Lowe's versus being sold at the local welding supplierUnless the welder has Lowe's written across itCo-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.
Reply:Isn't a Lincoln a Lincoln???Unless, of course, it's a Miller  In which case it might be Blue"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:A 'real Lincoln' has a variable adjustment on both knobs. If either clicks, it's a hobby welder.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250
Reply:They are probably the chinese lincolnsCheers
Reply:Normally I tend to stay BLUE, but a while back I went to LWS to purchase a millermatic. The rep clued me in to a cash of lincoln migs they just received. Living in Charlotte NC, there are numerous nascar shops locally. Once a year, the welder manufactures supply these shops, free of charge, with their latest. The shops in turn relinquish there current equip. I  bought 3 lincoln power mig 180c /diamond core tech, with the pro carts, full spool of .30 wire, full warranty, and a cash of consumables for 400.00 each. While researching the lincoln migs, I found they manufacture the 180s in many models with numerous differences. All effecting price.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180
Reply:i bought my first welder from home depot a weldpak 100all most 20 years ago still works great
Reply:The following pertains to the new 140 & 180 Lincoln machinesThe only machine that has "better" components is the Power Mig 140C & 180C and the only better component is the Cast AL wire drive system. The C model does offer Continuous Voltage selection where as the SP-T, ProMig & Weldpak are Tapped machines.Local Welding Supply shops sell the Power Mig and SP Line of machines but the SP140T and the SP180T are the same as the machines sold at HD & Lowes.Pro Mig= LowesWeldpak= Home DepotSAME EXACT MACHINESAll models are Spool Gun Ready: add the optional Magnum® 100SG spool gun for reliable operation at the high wire feed speeds aluminum welding demands.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:Just had to go to Lowe's to pay the credit card bill this afternoon. I took a careful look at the pro migs from Lincoln.  I was suspicious of something and fished the displays out of the cubby holes and turned them around: Made in Mexico.  125, 140, 180 power mig, all of them.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:I believe when you look on the machines at the Model #'s, they are not identical to what your LWS has on its shelf.  the chain store ones have additional letters added, which makes them unique to those retailers.  In a complete parts list for each unit, I believe you will find some parts with different part#'s when cross compared, item to item.  That's what I've always been told, anyways...just FYI."Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!

Reply:You gotta wonder how they can make it, then ship it, cheaper than doing the whole thing right here in the first place.I've also noticed that a lot of stuff doesn't have a "made in" tag on it anymore, just the home address of the corporation who's name's on the cabinet or tool.  They're gettin' real cutesy tutesy"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Thanks guys, this all started when I visited my local welding store (GTS WELCO), here in PA, and they told me that the Lincolns sold at Lowes use different internal parts than the ones they sell. Also, he has many guys coming to the store to buy parts for these "Lowes" Lincolns ,and he cannot get the parts. So I started doing some research and the Lowes Lincolns do look different on the outside, and as previous posters said, they have different model numbers and names,(weldpack, etc). I wish Lincoln didn't have so many "names" out there, it confuses serious people right out of the purchase.(especially when comparing price and specs), It doesn't have to be that difficult. Anyway I will probably buy the Hobart, called the reps for both companies and the Hobart rep from Ohio was real informative, and knew exactly what I was asking about. Thanks for the responses, just joined this site a few weeks ago, and you guys have been very helpful and sometimes pretty funny.
Reply:Interesting stuff and what about the "real gear" mig welder being sold now  thats made in China but will take a lincoln 180 spoolgun as a direct hookup????                 Just a thought                            Felon
Reply:Well yer LWS dood didn't try or doesn't know.My LWS dood does know and I guess he tries a little harderThis all started about 4 years ago when I bought my SP 135 Plus- I had the same questions.Started at the LWS and he was the one who told me they are the same- 'cept the Plus Models and Now the C models.Went to Lincoln's site and couldn't find the Box Store welders- called Lincoln and the Tech told me they are listed under "Retail Welding products" DUH! Anyhoo I asked HIM what the difference was- "None, we rebadge according to who sells them"Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:I am sure they do. However, I have not seen it here on the West Coast. I am sure they all make a less than perfect machine for the box retailers. It will weld for most hobbyists.
Reply:There is a difference between the Millers and the Hobarts. The LWS I work at does not sell the Hobarts, as we have a farm store 4 blocks away that does, but we do far more warranty work on the Hobarts, than we ever do on the Millers and "Real" Lincolns. My Miller and Lincoln reps have both told me that there is no way they would ever make the exact same machine for Lowe's Home Depot, or the farm stores, and have it be $100.00-$200.00 cheaper, as that would cut the throat of the LWS distributors that have been selling them, and servicing them long before the big box stores, and internet came along
Reply:Lincoln rep is wrongSP 180T= LWSSame machine as the ones sold at Lowes Home Depot and SearsI just don't understand why ya'll don't ask LINCOLN directly like I did and doToday's email:"Ed,These machines are basically the same. The different names are for the retail sales ofeach store.JPSGet the latest news from Lincoln Electric and a chanceto win - sign-up for our e-mail newsletter athttp://www.lincolnelectric.com/community/newsletters/"Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge

Reply:Does the lowes lincolns have the diamond core? The lowes lincolns definitely have a composite wire drive compared to the c models cast aluminum drive. Here's the product info sheets to campare side by side. Wish I would have researched more before I got mine from lowes.180CPro-MIG
