i have a miller 225 NT engine driven welder that i use every now and then around the dairy and sometimes i have a hard time deciding on amperage settings and im wonderin if there is a chart or something that someone might know off that i can go by and kinda get an idea on what to shoot for the next time im welding - thanks in advance
Reply:get a welding calculator from the supply store. its kinda hard to give you a real precise amperage as many electrodes of the same diameter have very different thickness of flux and flux content. a good ball park (most of the time) convert it to decimal equiv. and use that many amps, or a few less. thats how i tried to explain it to a guy once and he said that helped him a lot.only thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld

Reply:I need to look into this calculator, might come in handy!#1. If you don't like what I wrote, or if it offends you, then don't read it!#2. I am living life the way I see fit, if you don't like the way I'M living, tough sh**!
Reply:1/8 rod.....................1 divided by 8 = .125   125 amps is a good starting point for the rod.  Dial it up or down from there.  This works with all size rods."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

You mean if I'm using a 3/32, I should convert to decimal: 0.094"...and use...one tenth of an amp? Or perhaps 94 amps?

Reply:On the Bobcat NT's, setting the current for stick is very easy.  The course current control is labeled with the rod diameter.  Choices are 3/32, 1/8, 5/32 and 3/16.  Set that to the diameter of rod you're using.  Start with the fine current control around 7 and tune it from there for position and rod type (higher for 7018, lower for 6010, higher for flat, lower for vertical).  MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Ken, the stuff is really good.  Composition is really cool.I sort of gave up on the photos when film went out of style(Oldtimer kidded me a while back about gettin' artsy fartsy).  Now all I do is quick snapshots.  The digital camera took a lot of joy out of it for me.I still have 2 K-1000 bodies, and ton of lenses.  Full set of macro tubes(couldn't do bellows with the low end Pentax). If I could get a good middle of the road properly exposed neg, the rest was darkroom stuff.  It took time, and skill to make the final print.  Nobody to this day understands Ansel Adams "zone thing".  But we all tried to master it.  I still remeber how do dodge or burn a certain part of the pic, depending on what I wanted.  I miss it.If I had the money, I'd really like to get ahold of the new Pentax digital camera.  I think it's called the K-100.  AND IT'S COMPATABLE WITH ALL OF THE OLD K STYLE BAYONET LENSES!!!!!!!!!!!!  That was always a hallmark of Pentax. When I was younger, I used to get a positively great woody dreamin' of a Mamiya med. format.  Was a R something or other.  Yashica, and Gull made inexpensive versions of the older twin lense med. format cameras.  By the time I got to the point of having the money to afford them, it was over.  I still don't think digital takes the place of silver halide crystals.Used to like the slow ASA films.  The old 25 ASA B&W stuff(Remember PanX).  Long exposure, stopped down, with a red filter...............  You got really cool high contrast amazing stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think the highest I ever went was 100ASA.  1/125sec on a bright day was as far as you could push it.  Otherwise get the tripod out. This don't have a doggone thing to do with welding ......  SORRY"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Oh I C what U mean samm!Yeah! for general photography of the like that I put on WW, I tend to tone it down a lot too!Even make a few blurry shots, to keep the average person from feeling bad about their own bellow average, even kindergarten level of, thumb in picture, crooked, out of focus, can't tell the subject from the background, low light, no light, maybe try taking a picture while looking through the other side of the camera type photographs! There is a lot more guys on here that are into photography than what want to admit it, I have noticed a bunch of them, just by how they compose their shots, or do their lighting!Excerpt from my p.net biography page:There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs. -Ansel Adams Ken.Sorry for the thread hijack! #1. Reply:a welding calculator is just a little cardboard thing that will tell you different settings for different metals and positions. when i get home i will snap a pic of one and post it.only thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld
Reply:nevermind i found some welding calculators here. sorry about the quality i just took them with my phone. Attached Imagesonly thing worse than an ugly woman is an ugly weld
