I will try another picture, I have not got the hang of it yet. Attached Images
Reply:It looks like a black box with 3 round gages, 4 green buttons on the right side a bunch of wires coming out of it and 2 knobs you can twist right and left, right in the middle there is a small aluminum plate with DUMORE printed on it.. Over all condition is dusty, a few scratches, but can be cleaned up.
Reply:as for what it is, i don't know.  could be some a backup battery, or power source.
Reply:I did a quick search but didn't find a company website to look that model up on. Dumore makes toolpost grinders; maybe it was a power supply for an early EDM used to shape carbide cutters for Dumore grinders? On Monday, find a used machinery distributor which lists Dumore products and call them for any information, either about the company or perhaps about your box .

Reply:See other pic in other post with closeup of nameplate"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I thought the picture I saw the first time showing the number got edited away and had been in this thread; did the subject get double 'threaded'?  [No, I just did a search and this is it!]I recall it mentioned  tungsten carbide, not the company 'Union Carbide'. Don't know why my search didn't find what Specter's did; maybe my computer is also getting 'old and senile' as I am, 'cause I somehow forgot that model number after just an hour or less.  It doesn't look as if Dumore makes anything but grinders; this unit looks too complicated to just be a motor control but.......if I could just remember; I tried blowing up this current picture but it's not detailed enough to read once expanded.
Reply:I can't make out the switch or meter labels; that might give me a clue..  As a kid, I would fool around with electronic junk (circa 1960's),
Reply:I think we're looking at a small electroplating transformer-rectifier; used to coat cutting tools.Good Luck
Reply:I did a second poor search yesterday; the other post showing the label is at:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=29381

Reply:In the other thread the name plate says " Carbide Tool Surfacing Unit". So I Guessthat it places carbide on the surface of a tool
Reply:Thanks, I have been away for a while...I agree with denrep, I think he is close, i was just curious, i didn't really pay anything for it, i'm sure no one would buy it, wonder what i should do with it???? the double post was my fault, I tried for two pictures on one post and ended up with two posts

Reply:it is kinda cool.....I think it would be 1950's or even 40 something. It all vacume tubes...
Reply:Originally Posted by Oldiron2Seriously, you should contact the company with the model number and see what they tell you about it; maybe they need one for their own collection so will trade you something for it?
Reply:Because I'm sure after all these years, what they would like most in this world is to get back one of THESE THINGS they had so much fun in producing. I bet they might just have had an entire warehouse full of the little suckers at some point but getting THIS ONE back was their goal all along.
