need new welder

I have a 110V mig but I need to do some thicker stuff.  the question is, keep the 110V and buy a 225A arc or sell the mig and get a 220V 200A mig.  is the larger mig good for sheetmetal? what about stainless and aluminum?  I'm guessing arc might be better, never had to weld alum yet

Reply:I hope I wont need to weld 1/2"  thick material.   mostly 1/4 to 5/16 but the option of baing able to do it would be nice.

Reply:The110 volt MIG will always be a handy to have unit.  I ended up buying a Flux Core 110 to supplement my 220 volt MIG and Stick, because I always had little "jobs for friends" popping up that were a drag to haul back to shop to weld, then deliver back to them.  Its been used exactly for that every week since I got it..just used it for two different jobs today, as a matter of fact.Get a used stick unit for under $200.00 (AC/DC preferred)  stick with the Big Three, and you'll always be able to get every penny back that you paid (unless you got soaked!).  In the future, just keep stashing the cash, and your eye open for a nice used 220 MIG...they do pop up on Craigslist all the time."Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
