Can anyone tell me if I can hook a L N 25 to my old sa 200 ?
Reply:Recently, on eBay, a guy was selling a LN 25. I asked him if it would work with the SA 200 and he told me it was a DC wire feed and just needed a power supply and the SA 200 would work very well for that power supply. I have no idea what else is required to hook it up and make it work, though. I've never used a MIG with the SA 200, but if it will work it would be a good addition, wind blows too much here for it to be feasible. Hope this helps, I can't believe no one else has answered you?Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:I've heard that there is a wire that will work with that set up. But, it's much better if you CAN install a constant voltage box on the welder . Most wires work better on constant VOLTAGE, rather than the normal constant CURRENT ,that the sa200 is . I put a constant VOLTAGE converter box on my SA250 , and it worked great . You can weld innershield (without gas) and it works good , even in the wind . Like stick rod.[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:Thanks alot guys .I think that the low response is due to the fact most people dont know anything about wire welding .Wether it be short arc, mig , fluxcore, pulse arc or globulure transfer . The last place I worked we had alot of L N 25s and most of them had a cc /cv switch on the wire feeder .I think this is going to work great .
Reply:There are plenty of us on the board who know alot about wire welding, probly just not that many who have wire welded from an SA200.  I haven't.   There are a few feeders that will work on constant current.  The Miller Suitcase 8VS and 12VS as well as the older S-32 and the Hobart Hefty (which is now made by Thermal Arc) and of course the LN25.  The Miller XR Control feeder also works on constant current, according to their information.  I have never used my XR on constant current, only constant voltage with remote, so can't say how it might work.  I'm sure there are other feeders out there that will work too. Those above are the ones I know off the top of my head.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:thomasg990,The instructions below are taken from the LN-25 manual http://content.lincolnelectric.com//...r/im/IM620.pdf"SA-200, —250 OR SAE-300, —400 (WITHCV ADAPTER)a. For electrode negative welding, connect the electrode lead from the LN-25 to the output terminal on the CV Adapter, and the work lead to the power source output terminal labeled “POSITIVE”. For electrode positive welding, interchange the above lead connections so the LN-25 electrode lead is then connected to the positive power source terminal.b. Place both switches on the CV Adapter to the CV INNERSHIELD position and make appropriate power source settings per the CV Adapter instructions provided for the power pource being used.c. The output voltage is set with the voltage control on the CV Adapter.NOTE: Refer to the Instruction Manual provided with the machine for details on connection and operation of the LN-25 with the power source."DuaneMM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Thanks again guys this site is great . I,ve posted here a few times and have gotten some real helpful info. Ya,ll are probably right about not many people wire welding with an old sa 200 . I normaly use a 200 amp hobart machine in my shop but sometimes I have alot to weld in the field and it would be nice to be able to use the wire . where do I get a cv adapter ?
Reply:It will work, but you'll be limited by the machines output. That means you can't really take full advantage of the high deposition rates that wire allows. You'll also be limited by the lack of CV output unless you add a Wire Feed Module (around $1400). That means you won't be able to run the voltage sensitive wires. All of my comments assume flux core wire.JTMcC.
Reply:I've done a lot of wire welding with the SA200.  But, it was with aluminum wire.  I also had two welding generators on my rig.  I used the Miller with AC auxilliary power to power the WC1 Contactor, and my Spoolmatic 2 gun was hooked to the SA200 for welding power.  Reason for not simply using the Miller for both operations is the AEAD200LE has a switch for either aux power mode, OR, weld mode.  I could hook up the contactor to 100hz outlet on Miller, but was afraid of damaging the contactor.  I did that for awhile, but liked the way the SA 200 welded better.
Reply:I run an LN25 off a 300D with no CV adapter. I have it switched to CC and it works just fine. The big dis-advantage is not being able to turn it down to the lower welding range. (I usually run the settings for the equivelant of 5/32 to 3/16 7018.)  I carry a smaller MIG for doing lighter gauge material. The 300D is a bit heavier duty than the SA 200 but it should work OK and you'll likely clean the carbon out of your machine!Rotavia
Reply:Running iner and outer sheild wires  on cc is done all the time .  Usually the only  wires you will have a problem with  are the voltage sensitive ones and they along with mig have to  be run in cv
Reply:Should also have mentioned I use only MIG....never tried the flux core wire.Rotavia
Reply:You may be better off just buying a used 4000+ watt 220v generator and a small 220v mig welder to run your wire from...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
