I start welding school in August i'll be doing MIG, TIG, and Stick. I've been MIG welding for a few years now and want to learn more and also get certified. Which I will after the welding school is done. My question is, Do very many companies take on fresh out of school welders? I live in Paragould, Arkansas that's were American Railcar Industries is. They put any joe schmo off the streets through a week long crash course on welding and throw in the fire. I want to be a professional at the craft of welding. So any information anyone has please shower me with knowledge I want to know everything I can. Thanks
Reply:Yes, lots of company hire fresh-out-of-school welders. Don't expect to make top dollar as a new grad. Unless you're going into business for yourself, don't worry about getting certified. Do some searches on this forum and you'll find info on certification. It's company, process, and filler metal specific. Your employer will determine what test(s) you'll need to take and pay for the testing; usually when you hire on.Welcome to the craft, and good luck with school.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector |
