When welding two varying sizes of metal together is there any special way of doing it ?Yesterday I had to fillet weld and lap weld 2 mm sheet to 8 mm angle. If I had the amps up high enough for good penetration on the angle it would blow a hole in the sheet. If I had it low enough for the sheet it would not really penetrate the angle. What is the normal way of doing this ? In the end I managed to do my job with satisfying results, but would like to know for future reference.
Reply:Set it up for the thicker piece then focus on the thick piece and wash the weld onto the thinner one.
Reply:yeah lean a little bit more on the this side.
Reply:OK, I actually did the opposite. I set it up for the thin and kept pooling the weld on to the thick side, then ran another bead on top of the thick.
