Welders:I have posted here before. I've been mainly a FC welder for about 8 years. I have been in a fab shop for about a year and have been learning SS with 308 to 310 wire lately and doing some TIG on stainless and carbon. I am about to go to another state to see about work and the company will have a written test to go with the standard welding test they give. Stick (which I suck at) mig (I do good at although not great at OH and Vert) and FC. Can anyone give me a basic idea of what kind of questions they have ever had on written test questions. I can weld but never went to school to lean metalography or anything like this. Any websites or something I can read would be appreciated.
Reply:Guaranteed they will give you some weld symbols. Safety would be the other subject. Esab had a good welding course online. It looks like it has been taken down. Lincoln and Miller have lots of learning materials and safety guidlines worth reading.
Reply:Here you go. Fill your boots. There is a test included.http://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/AWTC/Lesson1_1.htm#
Reply:Thanks, just the kind of info I need.
Reply:They might ask questions about polarity, amperage for given thickness/rod, voltage (for mig) but I doubt they would get to in depth with it.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:ive seen some very in depth pre employment screening. know welding symbols, joint geometry, joint types, like snoboarder says know electrodes polarity, parts of welds such as toe face root throat etc. they might ask questions like what is a root opening or how much weld reinforcement is allowed. ive seen other places that have a tape measure test. hard telling. what kind of job are you going for? I know if i were wanting to hire somebody i would want them to know whats up. |
