what is the difference between these 2 welders besides the designac-225c arc welder  and the ac-225s arc welder i cannot find the 225s pic but this ones closei looked over the 2 and they seem to have almost identical features im not a proffesional and cant see the big difference other than the price and design    thanks in advance
Reply:The 225C looks to be a more carry around portable. Looks like the same welder in a smaller package...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun

Reply:Besides about 20 lbs, there's a difference in duty cycle, and the obvious = one is tapped and the other is continuous adjustment.  How about a fan?  The old standard will have a fan. My guess (guess only) is the ac-225c is built for more portablility and lesser service duty. Is there a big price difference?
Reply:the 225 s is $269  and the 225 c is $330
Reply:They do show a fan in the ac-225c. Interesting.
Reply:Totally different inside. Made for different uses. The ac 225 c was supposed to replace the tombstone, it was built to compete with the century and miller machines that had continous adjustments rather than the fairly large steps the classic 225 had. I understand they tried to discontinue the tombstone  but people kept buying it. I have used both types.          The 'Stone is sledge hammer simple, it has a 100% short circuit duty cycle at the 75 amp setting for thawing pipes, it will run on 25 amp fuse at 75 amps and a 30 amp fuse all day at 90 amps welding 3/16 steel with 1/8" 6011, one rod after another.. . Mine is 30 years old and works perfect, and you can adjust to the machine - weld faster or slower, longer or shorter arc.  Thin metal is a chore, you have to really practice. It sells more people on small migs than any other single machine, but will do it..  . The C works better with the high frequency attachment for tig work (no pedal) or for fine work on the lower end. -Think of welding muffler molly.       Both are best in the middle amp range. Neither really like the fat rods.      If you want to do fine thin work, or tig,  buy the C. If you are fixing farm equipment, thawing pipes and building trailers, rougher work, using it for a cutting torch at high amps with wet 1/8" 6011 and welding thicker metal, or have kids using it,  the S is your type.   .Last edited by wesdavidson; 05-16-2009 at 01:51 AM.past work toys; lathes, mills, drills, saws,  robots, lasers ironworker, shears, brake, press, grinders, tensile tester,  torches, tigs, migs, sticks, platten table, positioner,  plasmas , gleeble and spot. Reply:I've used the "6011 cutting torch".  Turn the machine up to the highest setting.  Then blow holes in the metal like you normally don't want to do.  Work from the bottom going up so gravity helps the molten metal drop out.  It also seems to help when you really push the rod into the metal and make multiple gouging passes.  It's really nasty, wastes too much rod, but beats driving back to the shop to get a torch for that one cut.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
