I have googled this and yet to find the answer. Why do you reverse the cables when you are MIG welding from flux core welding?
Reply:Like with stick, welding rods are designed to work with + or – DC. Most Mig solid wire is DC – and most Fluxcore is DC+. There are some wires that are the exception to the rule.
Reply:Self shielded flux core wire apparently functions best, generates shield gas from the flux, and produces a smooth metal transfer with DCEN, but technically I don't know why.  Not sure what happens if this is run DCEP.Gas shielded flux core wire, like stilck and MIG, operates well and produces deeper penetration with DCEP.  DCEN can be used with these processes for applications which require reduced penetration like cladding/surfacing where it is best to limit dilution of the overlay into the base metal, or for welding thin materials.

Reply:I never really thought about why.   I just run the polarity that's supposed to be run and it turns out fine.   Try running it wrong and it turns out nasty.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Thanks to all that replied. it gives me a better idea why now. I tried it tonight when I got home and noticed a difference as far as the "nice sound" it should have when welding. Looks like the penatration was bit better as well/
Reply:I truly believe the best service to those that weld, or are learning to, is to foget this "reverse polarity" stuff, and go to a simple designation of DCEP or DCEN.  It's clear, and to the point."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I had the devil of a time keeping reverse and straight clear in my mind until a friend taught me this trick to remember:"Senators and Representatives"DCEN:StraightElectrodeNegativeATORDCEP:ReverseElectrodePositiveRESENTATIVENow I wander around muttering "senators and representatives" anytime people start talking about straight vs reverse polarity. Reply:Great, now I'm going to be thinking of 'fools who waste my tax money' whenever I hook up my cables...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
