Hello:I am new here and to welding.  I found this Lincoln SP-170T for sale locally for 425.00 and I am thnking of buying it.  It seems like a good price point to enter a hobby, but I do not know anything about the model except the name brand is good.Is this a good choice?  It comes with a MIG gun.  What else will I need, other than the pbvious accessories, like helmet, gloves and chipper, etc.Is this a fair price used, assuming it is in decent shape?Wahts the learning curve like for a fairly smart guy with good common sense and a deep pocketbook?Just want to do some basic stuff around my shop.  Prolly nothing bigger than 1/4 inch thick.  Mostly tacking stuff down, maybe adding some railing to ladder and stuff.  1" OD type tubing and angle iron.  Nothing big or heavily structural. Thanks in advance for your help!
Reply:in a word, YES.That lil Lincoln will be able to handle the occasional 1/4" steel, it just depends on prep, fit up & beveling the fit up pieces.MIG's are fun to learn on.  Pretty simple, just point n shoot.  Get a good hood, some 75/25 gas mix a good spool of wire (ER70) & have fun.  As you go, learn to look at the puddle & make it move where you want it to go, not where it wants to go.Then the last thing you do is post pics of your projects.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
