ok sorry to ask so many questiions about ac but i have an over abundance of 6010, 7018 IA and can these be used for ac i can get a good arc but there is a lot of sticking and starting on a new rod is a pain and the welder says 1/8 rod 7018 ia 125 amps is that right i need to trade these for 6011 and 7014s but ks is not stick freindly also best way to cook them they have been in weather proof cases but still i think might have moisture thanks
Reply:6010 rods don't need to be dried. Here's the link to Lincoln's drying instructions for 7018http://content.lincolnelectric.com/p...ature/c210.pdfIt's on pg 46.7018 will form a glass like cap on the tip that sometimes needs to be removed to get a good restrike. A file is a good thing to scratch the tip against to get a good restart.Understand this, you will have trouble with 6010 and std 7018 with an AC machine. Thats just the way it is. These rods are designed to run on DC only. On Ac the arc goes out every time the polrity switches from DC+ to DC- and back. It's just like restarting the rod all the time and the rods just are not made to do that. You will not be able to tell if the issues you have are do to the rods and the machine, or your technique.You won't do yourself any favors trying to save money and learn on rods like that on AC. You either need to find a DC machine to run them on, set them aside until you get a DC machine later, or trade them with someone who can use them.
