Living Dead Lincoln

Noticed at work some time back a lincoln engine drive on the top rack by the maintainace area. So when the oppurtunity arrived I asked the head mechanic what the deal was with the lincoln. Story goes like this its a four cylinder diesel, motor needed to be rebuilt, machine was taken to shop, shop said that there wasn't enough block to bore the engine and sleeve it. So rather than buy a new engine for that machine our boss bought a gas burner. Decal claims the machine is a Ranger 10, the shop the mechanic claims it was taken to is a Perkins dealer. Im not familiar with the ranger series so is a ranger 10 diesel a real critter or has our mechanic been smellin the wd40 too long. Does anyone know a good place to get specs on the older machines/ engines. If the price is right I may try to get the boss to part with the machine. Ive got two pickups with empty beds a lincoln would look real good in one. If the money is right. Reply:The Ranger 10 was a larger machine.  The only one I ever had any experience with had the 3 cylinder kubota diesel engine.  It welded great, and was super quiet.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:DesertRider the machine in question is on a shelf about 10' high, but estimating the size of the shelf I would say the physical size of the machine is roughly 5'x2'x3'(LxWxH). Not as large as the SA 200's i've worked around. Having looked at lincoln's web site I'm beginning to believe this may be an older version of what is now the 305D. Reply:Speaking of small diesel engines, check outfits that salvage RVs (motorhomes with diesel generators).   Should be a bunch of them now!   Several years back was considering buying a used diesel from such but bought the whole MH instead (has a Kubota, branded as Onan, three cylinder that purrs).  Just an alternate engine source that I wanted to pass along for what its worth.
Reply:Got some more info on the Lincoln in question. Its a 250 amp machine with a three cylinder kubota HD 850 engine. The story I got was that the machine was taken to the LWS. The LWS said "we can sell you this new (off brand) gas engine drive cheaper than the Lincoln can be fixed." Makes since now the LWS is a big time dealer for brand x, but it appears they are out of the engine drive business. The store was pushing a new product from their big name brand, corporate customer, product sitting in the showroom. Or maybe the engine really is toast. I refuse to do business with this LWS simply because I don't like the people, this story reinforces my fellings. We have two other LWSs in town not to mention lowes, wally-mart, and all the parts houses. I was searching earlier and found a similar engine,used, for $1350.
