Hey guys,Usually, im not the gloating or bragging type, but I thought id share the deal I got ..... was at a friends house visiting yesterday while he was cleaning out his garage (allways a good time to visit someone)When I noticed a mag drill setting out by the garabge!!!!I asked him what he was doing & had he lost his mind?He said no, he hadn't, & I could have it, 'cuz it don't work noways.(He's a retired union boilermaker, & has all kinds of cool 'garbage' at his house, so, I visit alot.....)I figured if the magnet was good, it would make a neat welding jig kinda dooie. took it home, tore it apart, & the only thing wrong with it was the wire feeding the drill motor had been pulled loose.Looked like some dippy dumb-*** used it (the wire) as a carry handle. So, hooked it back up, greased the track, & she works like a charm, tight & everything!!! So now with it setting on my welding table I've got a poor? man's drill press!!Shane
Reply:You are now required to bow to the West 19 times, and run around the gaol post at the opposite end of the field, as a gesture of thanks to the welding gods. If you fail to show them proper appreciation, all your LH rods will accumulate moisture.AND THAT'S THE TRUTH! Rocky D told me so.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:surfrfred,The next time you have to drill a hole in a section of channel, sheet, beam, etc. that is too heavy to lug up onto your drill press table you'll get the idea that you have more than a poor man's drill press. Bought mine when I spent the day drilling holes in a section of 12" channel with a hand drill because it was too heavy to make it up on the drill press table. Awesome machines.

Reply:Franz, My neighbor gave me a 10,000 psi RamPac hyd. pump unit surplused from one of the local mines. Do you have any plans or photos or a hydraulic punch or shear unit that might work well with the likes of this type of pump?
Reply:I believe this one is hydraulichttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2586741836This is the model I cut my teeth on, punched over 5000 5/8 holes inthe flanges of 8" chanel with one of these 45 years ago, and I pretzeled 3 1" diameter handles and wasted 6 sets of punches. These things do produce holes.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-

Reply:Franz,Thanks for the reply. Looking for more ideas for a hyd. powered punch and/or shear to use with that RamPac pump unit.
Reply:hey franzyea, ive had my share of 'fun' with a ratchet roper whitney punch, hanging cable tray in a steel mill. used it to punch 3\16" steel 'z' purlins. I weighed about 160 then, & after about a day of that s**t, my but was spent. I dont know much about that Mr hydraulic guy, but he sure had a good invention..........LOLShane |
