I am brand new to welding/soldering and need some assistance getting started. I am going to make Christmas wireframes and connect mini-lights around it to make animated scuptures. I plan to use 1/8" or 3/16" cold rolled solid steel rods. It will not have much stress on each joint but will be many small pieces of bent rod with many metal-to-metal connections - just spot welds. I purchased a Bernz-o-matic propylene torch from home depot which says it has a flame temp of 3600. Specific questions include:1. Whay kind of solder/brazing rod do I need?2. What kind of flux?I have played a little with flux coated bronze rod but it seems to take very long to get the metal hot enough for the bronze to melt and it doesn't want to flow aroung the joint the way I would like - especially on the 3/16 rods.I appreciate any suggestions you can give me - including links to any site that might have specifics thta would help.
Reply:I hate to say this, but if it were me I'd use O/A torch. I know it's expensive to get set up but the preheat time would be very short and the brass will flow much better.
