Reply:Duane, from another thread:"I am new to this forum & I have a SA200 that I am having major trouble starting . Ive put a new cap &rotor on the mag & cleaned the mag. all grounds & I can get spark with a plug out once I put plug back in no spark , I take the cap & the other cap off mag. put back on it will spark until I release start button & then no spark once again. I dont know what to do."9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250

Reply:A few more questions.1) How do you know it's not sparking with the plug(s) installed? Because it won't start or are you using a visual 'spark' device?2) Did you change the plugs?3) What is the plug gap? Should be .025" for regular plugs or .035" for resistor plugs. Too large a plug gap can prevent the spark from jumping to the ground tab under cylinder compression pressures.4) Did you change the mag points & condenser?5) What is the point gap? Should be .015". Too large a gap will result in a weak spark that can jump the gap under compression.6) Are the plug wires installed on the correct cap towers for each cylinder?7) When did it run last?Sorry for all the questions but the answers will aid in helping to determine the present problem.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Duane; does this engine use copper-cored wire for the plugs, or could bad carbon-cored wires be part of the problem?
Reply:Good point. Wires should be solid core and resistor wires could be part of or the problem.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
