When I finished brazing my bandsaw blade, I was putting the leftover rod back in the tube, when I noticed the place of mfg.Looks like Hobart has more than a casual relationship with our Chinese friends this is "Weldit" brazing rod from Hobart I didn't notice before. Seems to work good Attached Images
Reply:OOPS, er um well ahhh that ain't really us here at Hofart, cause actually Hofart don't exist any more as much more than a label, and all our jobs that didn't go to China went to Appleton in the country called Wisconsin.  And besides, you can't blame us cause Lincoln forced us to sell off all our manufacturing when IndoChina Tool Works bought HoBart and turned it into HoFart. We'll be right back after we figure out if it would be good marketing to put an American Flag on the package the rod came in, we can get a deal on American Flags from our Chinese partners cause they make so many of them.Tahnk you for noticing how we REALLY do business. The HoFart companyMemo to Fred in marketing: Do you think they are smart enough to realize HoFart is really a Chinese name?Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:I was just curious what you guys think of the weld-it rod line. I normally use Lincoln but o9ne weekend ran out of 5p and the only place close by is a TSC bought a small box of 6011. I've used Lincoln 6011 before and I just didn't care for the Hobart weld-it line. Just curious what you guys thought about it.Still lookin for Rock!
Reply:speaking of rods ...just 2 days ago i was running some 1/8 7018 hobart rod....i usually like the rod but this time 2 rods out of 30 plus that i ran did some strange things .......welding along thinking about what i was going to have for lunch ....and POW!!!!rod blew and had big hole where my puddle was suppose to be .never had that happen before
Reply:fl. jim- You will have to post some pictures of my Weldit helmet (made in Taiwan) and my Hobart "American Eagle" helmet ( made in Korea). I just noticed this tonight and I almost wish I hadn't looked!"All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing"
Reply:it seems that getting GOOD rods is a "crapshoot" anymore! when we started this project:http://community.webshots.com/album/102953159JXNtdNwe were using lincoln 1/8 7018 for the overhead welding[ an existing bx of old rods, kept in the rod oven @ the yard] and they worked fine, but when we got a NEW bx of lincolns, they were TERRIBLE! since this was a boat hull, a dicision had to be made, the lincolns would be used for the flat/frame welding where a watertight seal was`nt criticle....and off i go in search of rods that would weld the open butts overhead correctly...tried out the lincolns at the welding supply house and couldnt get them to run right![neither could another weldor who was there to pick up a repaired machine!]then we tried the hobart, better, but not what i wanted for overhead open butts on a coast gaurd inspected vessel! then we tried the ATOM ARC [esab, i think] >>>>WOW<<<< what a diff! took a 100lbs of the ATOM-ARC back for the butts and the weld came out fine! the guys at the welding supply told me that the lincolns were made in MEXICO and sufferd from "lot" probs, some "lots" were good, some were`nt as good! i think ALL the rod co`s are like this! the best 6011 iv used recently come from a co called "WASHINGTON ALLOY [www,weldingwire.com] their 7018 is pretty good also![for now! at least!]it never hurts to look, unless they`r WELDING!
Reply:i've always had trouble with lincoln rods .....really have to put the heat to them for them to run ok
