HiI've been lurking a long time on here, just a amateur welder. I've got a old ac/dc 250 amp idealarc, the original tombstone welder. I have run across a miller hf-15 high frequency tig box. Is this something that would work well for tig with my welder and what would be a good price? I'm very happy with the machine I've got for smaw, and will probably never upgrade to a newer machine, but I would like to add tig to it.Thanks in advance!Mark D.
Reply:Not sure about the HF-15, but the HF251D1 with contactor will work. They sell for about $1000. You will have very limited duty cycle in tig with your stick machine.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I think the hf-15 may have been the first high frequency tig unit miller sold, maybe 20 years old? If I can get a good buy on it I thought it would be a good way to add tig capacity. I think the idealarc's duty cycle is around 100% at 130 amps, so even if it was cut in half I didn't think it would be to bad.Mark D.
Reply:With good deals like this out there:http://dallas.craigslist.org/mdf/tls/1366432569.htmlWelder: Air Products Model THF 250 OEC, Cart, Foot Switch, Tank Carrier and Argon Tank/regulator, Cables, TIG Tools. Miller Transformer Model JO70739 to reduce voltage for very fine work.
Reply:Thanks for all the advice. I have a change to get it for $80.00 but from the sounds of it it still won't be worth it.Thanks again.Mark D.
Reply:For $80 I would try it.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
