Greetings:I am completely new to welding. I have a Miller Thunder Bolt 225 stick welder. I am at the stage where I am simply welding scraps to each other to learn how to control the puddle etc. I am blowing holes in the 16 ga pieces I have tried so far and know that I have to reduce amperage and stick diameter. Could someone provide a good starting point for me? The scrap I have is 16 ga 1" x 1" square tubing. The welder is ac/dc.Thanks, Erik
Reply:16 ga is easy. I've done it with stick for decades. The key is to use DCEN and move quickly. I use 3/32 - 6011/6010 for 16 ga. Set the machine at 60a and give it a go. You will most definitely need to get a good whip going. Watch for the puddle getting too wide...that is a clue that a burn thru is on the way.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
