field welding

I have 4 fuel tanks to cut up and remove in the field. Looking at plasma vs gas welders. which is recommended? any suggestions?

Reply:I have to say, I agree with DesertRider33.  Unless you can be absolutely certain that you aren't going to blow up the fuel tank, I wouldn't take anything involving sparks or fire around it.  Fuels in a vapor state can be much worse than in liquid forms.  Even if the tanks have been empty for years, there could still be trapped vapors that could explode if ignited...Esab TradeMaster TorchSmith AW1A Airline TorchLincoln AC/DC 225/125Millermatic 252 w/ Spoolmatic 15aThermal Arc 190 GTSSpeedGlas 9100v

Reply:If you HAVE to cut them.....Put some Dawn or other good foaming dish soap in them and spay water in them to make a HEAVY foam to the TOP of the tank that will displace the gas fumes. But, you still better have a hand on the rip cord!
