I've been borrowing a Lincoln ranger 305 G from a guy who is going to sell me his other ranger 305 G, one that he just got a new PC board installed. He told me he was having problems with the heat spiking every once and a while, told me it was bubbling and gumming lol. When the PC board went on it, he was doing a job that couldnt wait, so he baught another one to get the job finished. The first job I did with it, i only burnt bout 5 rods, and didnt notice it. I decided to play and burn some rod at home. I noticed the rod would make a high pitched squeel when i struck the arc and burn hot for the first bit of the weld, i thought it was maybe a hot start feature that was built in or something. So yesterday I got to work at a camp ground, called Noahs Ark Rv Park, this guy has an old ship he is turning into an ice cream parlor, and he is building an aparmet above it I would love to take some pics but my camera got stolen along with my jackson nex gen out of my car. He was happy with me untill i told him my rate,   I thought 35 an hour plus 4.50 an hour for gas for the welder, plus consumables was reasonable, but it almost made him cry. He did say that it wasnt the last day i was going to be there, so im happy.Anyways, I went to work welding in mounting plates so he could lag bolt the beams too the Ark. Things were going well but then the welder started to make the high pitched noise and give me what seemed to be arc blow, but it the temp just spiked  and I had to deal with that off and on the rest of the day.So here is what we got Lincoln ranger 305 G with 450 hours on it. Brand new Leads, Fresh box of 1/8 lincoln Excaliber 7018 123 to 125 amps,  new ground clamp and stinger. Material ground clean. I want to know why this happens, so i can at least tell the guy what to go get it checked for. i tried some 3/32 but it made it worse. Thanks in advance, and for reading threw all this post too.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Ok, not to be a smart *** or anything, but is the polarity set right? Direct current, reverse polarity; meaning electrode positive, ground negative.
Reply:Thanks maarty for the reply. I have it hooked up reverse polarity. Good thought though. I get to go back tomarrow, I will see how long it takes before it does it again. just a thought, this welder was coverd in mud, maybe there is a screen blocked somewhere causeing it to overheat? i got bout 18+ inches between the welder and the cab, so itshould have enough breathing room. hmm.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Sounds like maybe you need to take it to a Lincoln authorized service center and have them diagnose the problem.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
