Reply:When bought new, the metal supplier can tell you what the grade is. When bought used, look for markings on the metal. They often print it along the length of extrusions or put a sticky tag on the end. Any other used piece of aluminum with no markings is 'mystery metal' to me.I would probly use 3/16 to 1/4 on the truck bed deck, depending on what will be loaded on it and what the cross member spacing will be underneath. Most beds use c-channel for the framework.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:In general, 6061 does the trick perfectly. if you are bending material, go to 5052, it is a much more formable material, it bonds perfectly well with 6061 and other popular grades of aluminum alloy. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
