This is a very basic question but I would appreciate your knowledge. What is an all- position electrode?

Reply:You can identify the position limitation (or lack thereof) by the number of the rod.  The first two digits refer to the tensile strength of the steel in the rod -- usually 60 or 70, which means 60,000 or 70,000 psi tensile strength.  The third digit identifies the welding position(s) the rod/flux combo are designed for -- 1 is for all positions, 2 is for both flat and horizontal (but not vertical), 3 is for flat only.The fourth digit identifies the flux coating, which also plays a role in its suitability for AC or DC current, and whether the polarity used should be electrode positive or electrode negative.      * EXX10 DC+ (DC reverse or DCRP) electrode positive.    * EXX11 AC or DC- (DC straight or DCSP) electrode negative.    * EXX12 AC or DC-    * EXX13 AC, DC- or DC+    * EXX14 AC, DC- or DC+    * EXX15 DC+    * EXX16 AC or DC+    * EXX18 AC, DC- or DC+    * EXX20 AC ,DC- or DC+    * EXX24 AC, DC- or DC+    * EXX27 AC, DC- or DC+    * EXX28 AC or DC+(The E at the beginning is for 'electrode,' which is what a stick is.)Jack OlsenMy garage website
