The French fried Mack got pulled in Tues morn for its rebuild. Already did the fronts now finally got the rear wheels and drums off,, brks look good and have to free up one slack adj is all. Cool, cut the old tool boxes off, going to move one tie down strap and add one to match pallet boxes. Starting from rear to front,, a couple broken welds to fix and my guy is already busy with the scaler. Going to add brkts for 2 new boxes, blast and paint. Then cab change + top end work and re-man inj. Got new windshield, will paint and add some shoulder belts and a couple new lines on the crane. I am going to make a man basket also and a jib for trusses. Maybe I get some pics as I go. I might make a box with mesh bottom for blocks. Attached Images
Reply:The ratchet straps are not quite spaed right for me, going to move one and add one right behind rear wheel. I am moving the step on the other side and I have replacement door but acidently dropped a piece of steel against the window, ha,, have to change that out now. Built a new bumper last fall. Reply:I have to replage one rear fender skirt, have replaced the front axel and put one new steer tire on already. We will fix every problem we can find. I am going to clean the air tank drains and a couple more air lines yet, new mirrors etc. Here is a job I did with it earlier,, works really well and I love the 20 ft bed. Has short turning radius and is great on fuel. This thing is really handy for me. Better than a pole truck as the crane is out of the way,, no boom in the way for hauling equipment. This thing handles and drives really well. Attached Images
Reply:Have to fix one piece of steel on the bulkhead and if I get right on it I may be able to blast bed Friday. The crane isnt too bad, think I might just steam it off, scale a couple bad spots and repaint it. Hate to get sand all over it. It has 85 gal fuel tank which is cool. I will rotate a couuple wear bars on rear spring perches and replace/repair or build a new front bumper too. Oh yeah,,, and have to add a coffee cup holder to the cab too and a new fire ext brkt. Going to re cover the seats too and add a couple new guages. Attached ImagesLast edited by Sberry; 02-26-2004 at 01:05 AM.
Reply:Well, I guess FiFi ain't too bad of a flatland scooter, long as you ain't tryin to pull weight with it, or beleivin it's really a MACK.That's a right cute trailer hitch you got on the back too.Long as yer buildin, don't forget to put a pair of tow bar clevices on the front so you can haul FiFi home with a real truck.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:The Renault isnt something I would have bought new, but it is the perfect size for what I am doing. My old one had 16 ft bed, this has 20 That little hoist is SO handy.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:I have 7 wheels to blast, mask and paint yet today,, would be glad to give anyone FREE lessons that wants to stop by.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Be careful how much paint you hang on them wheels S, FiFi only has limited torque. Are you painting the wheels John Deer Green?Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:make sure you use a good primer on those wheel rims after blasting, alot of guys skip the primer, or DTM epozy process and wonder why the rims start rusting in a month or two.All the trouble to blast should be followed up with proper paint procedures to maintain a good and long lasting finish.Like the truck, would sell the wife and kids to have that.I have lifted full size Western Star sleepers off of a truck with a unit similiar to yours, mounted a Volvo cabover, single axle with lift axle. It was a newer Hiab, worked very well. You will wonder how you ever got by without a truck like that.Little hint tip trick too, make sure you blast and prime paint the lugnuts as if you dont when you go to intall the rims. old rusted lugnuts look like **** against fresh painted rim. There's a method to the madness, disregard the method and the madness begins!!
Reply:Sberry,You gotta drop those trees in a lake have a log rolling contest, sell tickets and you'll get your restoration money...
Reply:Big, I used it all summer and it runs well. I use Corlar epoxy primer and Imron topcoat. When I started out this morn didnt figure it wsould take all day to do 7 rims,, ha, 2 of us. My mechanic needle scaled before I blasted. Have only one side of 4 wheels to paper and I am ready for paint. Prime in morn and color tomorrow evening. 15$ worth of sand. I get the sand bulk and what you guys are getting for 500 I get for 20$ Too bad you guys didnt have a way to handle it. Havnt got a used hopper bottom sitting around? You could get a whole truckload for 500. They load train cars and trucks out of there. Franz,, they are going to be white. White cab. Am having a debate about the bed,, I spose black but Lincoln welder gray woud be cool too. I have a little clean up on it yet and then blast but its sposed to rain all next week. Tomorrow would be good to blast but I wont be ready. I got another cab for it and a decent door for 200. New windshield was,,, get this,,, 148.50 I wouldn fool with used for that. I can get a deal on glass.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:I have the cab sitting on a pallet box, moves easily with pallet jack. As for the log rolling,, I do have a lake. Bikini girls rolling on the logs I might go for. For some reason it isnt letting me post pics. Was working,, wonder whats up with that?
Reply:try again, tried one earlier and it didnt work either. When I hit submit it clears out the file and doesnt post.
Reply:S the only color you can post in is John Deer Green. FiFi oughta have a pink cab bein such a cute little Renault, and chrome stack.Myabe you could get some strawberry decals for the doors too.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
