I am refurbishing a 1985 Class c  RV ,, the little 2.8k gennie is ok but I am going to be using more than it can handle so I want to trail my 7000 watt Generac!    I have heard all the storiesof trying to back up with a trailer or hauler attached so I am thinking of not using a ball hitch..but using the receiver hitch with the trailer having a fixed tongue to slide into the receiver hitch connector on the RV and possibly a bumper on each side or the trailer pushing against the RV bumper to help keep the tongue from buckling!  that way I am hoping the trailer would not turn but would act as other rear wheels on the motor home!    Any thoughts on this????? thanks for your input!!!!
Reply:What?  Just build yourself on of these, stick it in the reciever on the back of the RV, set the genny on it, and call it good. Attached ImagesMy name's not Jim....
Reply:You'll be scrubbing and cooking those tires like crazy.
Reply:I would think that the tires on the trailer would wear pretty quick since your rear axle will be the pivot and the trailer tires would just swing.  How big is the genne?  I would think that if you can some sort of hitch platform like mentioned would be your best bet if you don't want to deal with a trailer.

Reply:Somebody use to make a trailer with two hitches and a single caster. how about something like that if the weight is more than you want to put on a platform????-- fredLincoln 180C MIG
Reply:Obviously you know nothing about RV's!  You can not see dittle in the back,, so backing up even without a trailer is hard!
Reply:I had thought of that, but this gennie ain't no lite weight! Its a 7000 watt continiuos and 12,400 surge job,, comes in close to 240 pounds!   That would have to be a pretty hefty square tube for the receiver?
Reply:And I have a small Onan in the RV. it is a little too lite,, and I am 100% disabled so I need something easy to off and on,, and can't afford to up grade!  those little onans are spensive!
Reply:Those big rigs with a pup trailer out back have the same problems.  They have an air actuated pin to lock the hitch when they go to back up so they only have to deal with the front trailer pivoting on its hitch.  The hitch between the two trailers is locked.Don't know if this can be accomplished for your purposes or notGordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
Reply:so not knowing how often you are going to back l up - what about one of those cheaper backup camera's - they are wireless so installation is a breeze ?-  Stephen
Reply:I have a friend who put a second ball hitch on the front of his RV. When he reached the campsite he would disconnect the trailer, turn the RV around, and then connect the trailer to the front hitch. He could then push the trailer into the site exactly where he wanted it.Just a thought from outside the box.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.

Reply:Backing a trailer with an RV is not a problem.  I suspect that most of the "horror stories" that you have heard are about backing a TOAD, vehicle towed with four wheels down.A trailer behind the RV will back like any other trailer.  Where as a TOAD can not be backed because the front wheels will whip to the bump stop as soon as you start backing.
