I am looking to buy an oxy set. I have narrowed my choice to Victor or Forney.I plan to do a wide range of projcts from race car to yard art.I like to buy tools that are good value and will hold up over time. I hate buying junk that I use twice and throw away.Any suggestions on which manufacturers products would be best for me.Cheers!
Reply:Forney has changed over the years.  I'm not quite sure they actually build any of their own stuff anymore.Victor is a very good torch, and so is Harris.  Parts are readily available"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I have never had a problem with victor and you dont want people to think youre a forneycatorFelonCaution lurker lives here" hmmm That is serious, pass the ganja and pick up a  24 of MGD"
Reply:Prestolite/ESAB has the best regulator (and safest) that money can buy.  Smith is American made and has a lifetime guarantee...something you won't find in Forney or Victor.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:The Fourney and Victor may be the same. Forney is like craftsman, they put thier name on other manufacturer equipment.   If you are the only one using the equipment the Victor will be a good choice.Smith does have a LIfetime Warranty on thier torches that covers everything except abuse of course. The new Smith 30 series regulators are warranty for three years and seem to be a good set.OAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:Victor is the victor
Reply:Smith, has always worked for me. Never had a problem, been using the same set for many, many years.
Reply:A Victor torch in my hands becomes one with me. "One cuttin Machine" Smiths to me don't feel right. As a tradesman I have always used Victor
Reply:As a shop teacher, smith is really hard to beat,  I have always said to my welding reps if they want new products tested give them to me so that students can put them through a tough test.  Smith has lasted through the most abusive non interested students that I have had.  Can't beat made in the USA and the warranty that comes with them.
Reply:Thanks for the replies.Much appreciated.
Reply:I don't own a Victor, so I'm quite bias. I'm pretty happy with my Forney 01711. It's cheap but reliable. It can weld up to 1/2-Inch and cuts up to 8-Inch.Midwest Metal ProductsMetal Wire Forming Fan Guards Delta-Larm
Reply:Victor. My dad was a welder for over thirty years and retired in 1982, and I'm still using the same torch he had on his rig. He was a rig chaser and when he was through the roughnecks would help him roll up his torch and they would let the barrel and head fall, get hooked and anything you could imagine. It took a beating and is still working like the day he bought it.
Reply:Victor !  Victor!  Victor!  Tips, parts, accessories, and repair shops for this brand in abundance almost everywhere.  I have owned and used other brands, but when I want to use a torch, I use a Victor!A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:Victors have the best parts availability (I didn't personally buy new, I rebuilt old regulators and torches after thorough study since I insist on being able to fix as much of what I own as possible). We use Victor Journeyman setups at school and they hold up very well. Smiths are very nicely built and our welding students haven't killed any yet. Their plating and workmanship are first rate.
Reply:Victor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:OK....so I am closing in on a Victor Performer.Cyberweld.com has some good prices any experience with these folks?
Reply:And I bet y'all go marchin' off to the mall and buy your pants at the same store.  NIce to feel ya's in good company, or at least all doin' the same thingAin't a thing wrong with a good Harris torch in the right hands"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
