Reply:the duck is i believe about 12"x12",made it for my dad last sunday for his birthday he loves ducks. The trail of tears is 8"in diameter and cut it out of 1/8"flat stock i had layin around. printed the pics from internet then enlarged them at work and cut out and traced onto stock. Lettering was a tad bit small and not too good gonna have to get steadier with that thing if lettering gonna be that small, gotta find some more silouettes off the net to make me some more,wife liked the trail of tears one so much she hung it on front door works pretty good for a door knocker too lmao and yes i painted them black. Thanks guys just thought i would show em, i really enjoyed cuttin em out and they didn't take very long to make. only other project i got on the burner is planning to make a new weldin trailer, but gotta get channel and axle first before i begin that project.Last edited by rodburner; 01-29-2004 at 11:07 PM.
Reply:If you have a photo editing program you can alter any picture to get a siloette by using the inverse feature. I've done a few of them like that . It helps to pick out the best picture(clip art) for whatever you are trying to cut out. You can change them to black and white or grey , use the inverse and play with them a little. You have to pay attention on what parts to leave and what to cut out . I use Photoshop to do that with,  I'm sure there are others picture editing programs that will do it too. DavidDavid

Reply:In my welding class we occasionally use the overhead projecter to blow things up onto larger paper, then use the CNC plasma cutter to trace the paper and cut it out! It's cool to watch, though not to fun to do once you get it on the machine...Great work though 'Burner!Lean mean TIG weldin' machineSquarewave 175
Reply:CNC boy i wish i could afford one of those lol would cut out designs bettern free hand lol . I picked up one of those cheap projectors at the hobby shop this weekend ain't got to use it yet .  Thanks

Reply:Nice stuff rodburner.  Cutting this stuff out is a lot of fun!!Don't overlook anything as a possible source for patterns.  I've got close to 500 patterns in my file cabinet from magazines, scroll saw pattern books and even snapshots.  I did one of a man on horseback from a photo his family gave me to pattern.  He loved it and mounted it on the entry gate to his ranch.  Here are a couple of links for pantagraph plans/supplies if you're interested.Old Torchmate plans The Williams Low Buck is anything but lowbuck but it is another way to do it.Always glad to help out with ideas for new tools  And thanks for the link SB that looks very doable and price ain't too bad at that. I just don't think i will ever talk the wifey into one of those plasmacams lol I'm still workin on her for a wirewelder next{plus pinching pennies and savin for that toy   Looks like WW already gave me a list to do to judging from her recent post lmao.  There is one problem i have with the patterns, I ain't figured out how to get em big as i want em. I've tried the overhead projector but when i get it big on the wall its always so distorted. Got any ideas how to make em any size i would want ?

Reply:Making patterns bigger........ I have used the old fashioned way of drawing a 1/2" grid overlay on the original drawing and then drawing (for instance) a 1" grid overlay on the piece of steel. then you only have to draw in little bits at a time on the steel. Just pick something that is reasonable for a grid on the original drawing/pattern.
Reply:yjmike i just dont seem to have the time to do the things i need to do,shoot i have a 45x30 shop,but its full been trying to get it cleaned up, ! work 4 10s then fri gets taken up by doctors,gro shopping,all that stuff,then always helping other peeps.got to stop that stuff soon get the shop cleaned up get busy around here,lots of rails to build.and now the little womans looking for stuff for me to build
Reply:LOL my usual work day is 10 pm to 730  -900 am sleep for a few hours then to school at 4 pm till 830 or so home to shower and change and go back to work...
